We've all heard of the meek and mild prophets, whispering, speaking to the wind and sky, the people and elements. But the Bible reveals a God who also speaks in technicolor, through prophets whose experiences veer wildly from the ordinary into the weird. Consider Jeremiah hiding his underwear under a rock by the Euphrates – talk about "nasty", what a wake-up call! Or Ezekiel, commanded to eat a scroll, live on his side for 390 days (one for each year of Israel's sin!), and bake bread over dung while scratching markings on a brick, leaving his neighbors scratching their heads (and holding their noses). And... Hosea marrying a prostitute (which is real weird accoring to their custom) and naming his children weird names.
These seemingly bizarre acts were not cruel whims. They were "potent visual aids", jolting people out of their complacency and causing them to pay attention. Imagine the buzz when Ezekiel, after months of side-lying, stood upright – a living symbol of Israel's potential restoration! God, in his infinite creativity, used these "weird" encounters to break through the static of daily life and deliver powerful messages. Ezekiel had to embrace the weird, be "very" mindful of The LORD and take His instruction. Technicolor is about being aware of the different ways God moves all at the same time and completely in Love.
But what about us? When we hear the Lord's voice whispering something that seems utterly insane, do we recoil in fear or jump up and say, "Yes, Lord, even if it involves wearing sandwich boards and handing out print material, drawing prayer circles on a map or yodeling in public squares (looking at you, Jeremiah) and then standing still while feeding the birds for half an hour?" Fear is natural, but remember, we're still babes growing up into the image of the Holy Divine Master - Jesus Himself; The King & High Priest. Instead of judging God's wisdom based on looking to "see" immediate fruit, (or lack thereof), let's embrace the uncertainty with a bold "Yes, Lord." Be still and focused on His presence and follow instruction and God does things to manifest and maintain His Kingdom in Earth as it is in Heaven.
Just like the prophets of old, we might not always understand the "why" behind the wacky instructions. But here's the beauty: faith isn't about having all the answers; it's about taking a leap of "trust" with the One who holds all things in His hands and is seated above the heavens. When we step out of our comfort zones and follow that crazy-sounding urge, we open ourselves to experiences that shatter our limitations and reveal the breathtaking scope of God's plan. Being in one accord and focused with faith and intent God opens the heavens and scatters darkness.
So the next time the Holy Spirit whispers something that sounds like it belongs in a Monty Python sketch, take a deep breath, remember the quirky prophets who paved the way, and shout, "Bring it on, Lord! I'm ready for a technicolor adventure!" REMEMBER, weird is just one aspect, but it's the one that probably stands out the most and makes people in the world feel most uncomfortable.
After all, who knows what awe-inspiring miracles might unfold when we embrace the weird and wonderful loving ways God chooses to speak to us?
Trust and faith in God's plan, opens opportunity for righteous divine adventure. Safe atmospheres and envoriments are a must for those seeking these kinds of miracles. Darkness resists The Light. Have faith, gaurd your heart, be grounded in Love and let Jesus lead the way.
